As an employer, it's now more crucial than ever to take proactive steps to address and prevent psychosocial risks in the workplace. What actions are you implementing  to effectively manage workplace stress, combat burnout and promote holistic wellbeing in your team? 

In recent times, there has been a noticeable shift in focus towards mental wellbeing in workplaces, both within Australia and worldwide. This shift has been underscored by updates to Australia's Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) laws, which now emphasise the crucial importance of cultivating psychologically safe work environments. 

Mental Health statistics paint a stark picture – in the past year alone, 4.3 million Australians aged 16–85 experienced a mental disorder. That’s 1 in 5 Australians showing up to work with a mental health condition.  Globally, workplace stress continues to rise, with 44% of employees reporting significant stress levels in their roles.

Organisations must reassess their approaches to managing psychosocial risks and prioritise wellbeing. It's no longer merely a nice-to-have; it's a legal obligation and a fundamental element for fostering productivity and ensuring business sustainability. 

The government's motivation behind these changes is two-fold: to alleviate the financial strain of stress-related claims on the workers' compensation system while simultaneously prioritising the wellbeing of employees. 

The correlation between stress and exacerbated mental health conditions underscores the urgent need for proactive well-being initiatives in workplaces. 

I'm deeply passionate about assisting organisations in managing psychosocial risks and prioritising well-being. Drawing from my extensive experience supporting thousands of women to get sober through my previous business, Thrivalist, I understand the distinction between genuine support and mere box-ticking exercises. It's crucial to actively support your team members in improving their well-being rather than simply going through the motions.
